Trinseo S.A., incorporated on June 14, 2010, is a materials company engaged in the manufacture and marketing of synthetic rubber, latex and plastics, including various specialty and technologically differentiated products. The Company's segments include Latex Binders, Synthetic Rubber, Performance Plastics, Basic Plastics, Feedstocks and Americas Styrenics. The Latex Binders segment produces styrene-butadiene latex (SB latex) and other latex polymers and binders, primarily for coated paper and packaging board, carpet and artificial turf backings, as well as a various performance latex binders applications, such as adhesive, building and construction and the technical textile paper market. The Synthetic Rubber segment produces synthetic rubber products used in tires, impact modifiers and technical rubber products, such as conveyer belts, hoses, seals and gaskets. The Performance Plastics segment produces compounds and blends and specialized acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) grades for automotive end markets, as well as consumer electronics, medical, electrical and lighting (collectively, consumer essential markets (CEM)). The Basic Plastics segment produces styrenic polymers, including polystyrene, basic ABS, and styrene-acrylonitrile (SAN) products, as well as polycarbonate (PC), all of which are used as inputs in a range of end use markets. The Basic Plastics segment includes polystyrene, copolymers and polycarbonate. The Feedstocks segment includes the Company's production and procurement of styrene monomer outside of North America, which is used as a raw material in various of its products, including polystyrene, SB latex, ABS resins and solution styrene-butadiene rubber (SSBR). The Americas Styrenics segment consists of the operations of its joint venture, Americas Styrenics LLC (Americas Styrenics), a producer of both styrene monomer and polystyrene in North America.
The Company is a supplier of latex polymers and binders to the carpet and artificial turf industries and offers a range of products for use in residential and commercial broadloom, needlefelt, and woven carpet backings. It produces high solids SB latex, styrene-acrylate (SA) latex, vinylidene chloride and butadiene-methacrylate latex products for the commercial and niche carpet markets. SB latex is also used in flooring as an adhesive for carpet and artificial turf fibers. It also offer a range of performance latex products, including SB latex, SA latex and vinylidene chloride latex primarily for the adhesive, building and construction, as well as the technical textile paper market.
The Company is a producer of styrene-butadiene and polybutadiene-based rubber products. Its Synthetic Rubber segment produces synthetic rubber products used in high-performance tires, impact modifiers and technical rubber products, such as conveyor belts, hoses, seals and gaskets. It has a synthetic rubber technology and product portfolio, focusing on specialty products, such as SSBR, lithium polybutadiene rubber (Li-PBR) and neodymium polybutadiene rubber (Nd-PBR), while also producing core products, such as emulsion styrene-butadiene rubber (ESBR). Its synthetic rubber products are used in tires. Other applications for its synthetic rubber products include polymer modification and technical rubber goods.
The Company's Performance Plastics segment consists of compounds and blends and some specialized ABS grades. Its Performance Plastics segment also compounds and blends its PC and ABS plastics into differentiated products for customers within these sectors, as well as compounds of polypropylene. It has also developed compounds containing post-consumer recycled polymers. For the automotive industry, it manufactures PC blends under the PULSE brand. For the consumer electronics, electrical and lighting and medical device industries, it manufactures its products under the EMERGE brand.
The Company's Basic Plastics segment consists of styrenic polymers, including polystyrene, ABS and SAN products, as well as PC. Its product offerings include a range of general purpose polystyrenes (GPPS) and high impact polystyrene (HIPS), which is polystyrene that has been modified with polybutadiene rubber to increase its impact resistant properties. These products provide customers with performance and aesthetics across applications, including appliances, packaging, including food packaging and food service disposables, consumer electronics and building and construction materials. It produces mass ABS (mABS) and markets under its MAGNUM brand. Primary end uses for its ABS products include automotive and construction sheet applications. SAN is used mainly in appliances, consumer goods and construction sheets. Within its Basic Plastics segment, the Company manufactures SAN under the TYRIL brand name for use in housewares, appliances, automotive, construction sheets, battery cases and lighting applications. In addition, TYRIL is suitable for self-coloring. Its products for glazing and construction sheets are marketed under the CALIBRE brand name.
The Company's Feedstocks segment focuses on the production and procurement of styrene monomer outside of North America. Styrene monomer is a raw material for the production of polystyrene, expandable polystyrene, SB latex, ABS resins, unsaturated polyethylene resins and styrene-butadiene rubber.
The Company's Americas Styrenics produces both styrene and polystyrene. Americas Styrenics also produces general purpose polystyrenes (GPPS), high heat, high impact resin and STYRON A-TECH polystyrene products. Applications for these polystyrene products include appliances, food packaging, food service disposables, consumer electronics and building and construction materials.
