Vale S.A. (Vale), incorporated on January 11, 1943, is a global producer of iron ore and iron ore pellets, key raw materials for steelmaking, and producer of nickel, which is used to produce stainless steel and metal alloys employed in the production of several products. The Company also produces copper, metallurgical and thermal coal, potash, phosphates and other fertilizer nutrients, manganese ore, ferroalloys, platinum group metals, gold, silver and cobalt. The Company's segments include Ferrous minerals, Coal, Base Metals and Others.
The Ferrous minerals segment comprises the production and extraction of ferrous minerals, as iron ore fines, iron ore pellets and its logistic services (railroads, ports and terminals), manganese and ferroalloys and others ferrous products and services. The Coal segment comprises the extraction of metallurgical and thermal coal and its logistic services (railroads, ports and terminals). The Base metals segment includes the production and extraction of non-ferrous minerals, and are presented as nickel and its byproducts (ferro-nickel, copper, gold, precious metals and others) and copper (copper concentrated). The Others segment comprises sales and expenses of other products, services and investments in joint ventures and associate in other business. Its subsidiaries include Companhia Portuaria da Baia de Sepetiba, Mineracao Corumbaense Reunida S.A., Salobo Metais S.A., Vale International S.A., Vale Mocambique S.A. and Vale Oman Pelletizing Company LLC.
