Versum Materials, Inc., incorporated on November 17, 2015, is a provider of solutions to the semiconductor and display industries. The Company is engaged in the development, manufacturing, transportation and handling of specialty materials. The Company's segments include Materials; Delivery Systems and Services (DS&S), and Corporate. The Materials segment is an integrated provider of specialty materials for the electronics industry, focusing on the integrated circuit (IC) and flat-panel display markets. The DS&S segment designs, manufactures, installs, operates, and maintains chemical and gas delivery and distribution systems for specialty gases and chemicals delivered directly to its customers' manufacturing tools. The Company is also engaged in molecular design and synthesis, purification, advanced analytics, formulation development and containers and delivery systems for the handling of high purity materials to deliver solutions and process support to its customers.

Materials

The Materials segment provides the global semiconductor industry with high purity process materials for deposition, metallization, chamber cleaning and etching; chemicals mechanical planarization slurries, organosilanes, organometallics and liquid dopants for thin film deposition, and formulated chemical products for post-etch cleaning primarily for the manufacture of silicon and compound semiconductors and thin film transistor liquid crystal displays. The Materials segment offerings for deposition, chemical mechanical planarization (CMP), etching, doping and cleaning enable semiconductor manufacturers to create devices for both the logic and memory market segments. Its product categories include advanced materials and process materials. Advanced materials supplies products and services through advanced deposition materials (ADM), planarization (PLA) products, and surface prep and clean (SP&C) formulated products platforms. PLA products include CMP slurries and post CMP cleans that are used to prepare chips with deposited thin films for the next stage of fabrication. SP&C formulated products are designed to selectively etch and remove debris and contamination during various stages of the wafer fabrication process.

Process materials supplies products, such as high-purity gases and chemicals utilized in the processes of cleaning, etching, doping, and film deposition for its semiconductor, displays and light emitting diode (LED) customers. The cleaning and etchant gases, such as nitrogen trifluoride (NF3) and hexafluorobutadiene (C4F6), are used for chamber cleaning and etching applications in the production of semiconductors. Its process gases for deposition and metallization, such as tungsten hexafluoride (WF6), are used in the process of depositing film layers. Its dopants, such as arsine (AsH3) are used for ion implantation for semiconductors and its hydride gases, such as ammonia (NH3) support applications in display and LED's. Its process materials' products are used in a range of displays, including televisions (TVs), mobile and touch displays, automotive applications and other LED-based displays, and logic and memory technology. The Company supplies these products to its customers throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. As of September 30, 2016, the Materials segment operated 11 production and six research and development facilities and served over 250 customers.

Delivery Systems and Services

The DS&S segment provides turnkey installation services during facility construction and startup, as well as onsite operating services. Its product categories include equipment (gas and chemical delivery systems); installation (turnkey and installation), and on-site services (MEGASYS). It develops, designs, manufactures and sells bulk gas, specialty gas and specialty chemical cabinets and systems. It also provides flow and temperature control systems and analytical systems to capture key data for its customers. It offers resources to assist a new semiconductor fabrication in the design, installation, startup, and commissioning of the gases and specialty materials delivery systems and quality assurance. In addition, it sells spare parts, equipment upgrades, equipment maintenance and provide training.

The Company offers on-site services to assist its customers in managing their inventory of gases and chemicals, including ordering, product changes and monitoring, quality assurance, operating its delivery systems, and managing the bulk gas and specialty gas operations. As of September 30, 2016, the DS&S segment operated three production facilities with two in the United States and one in Asia.

The Company competes with Adeka, Air Liquide, Cabot Microelectronics, Dow Chemical, Entegris, FujiFilm, Hyosung, JSR Microelectronics, Merck EM and SK Materials.
