Nimetz, Matthew 

Mr. Matthew Nimetz is Independent Director of Renren Inc since December 2008. Mr. Nimetz currently serves as an advisory director of General AtlanticLLC, a leading global growth equity firm. He also serves as a director of Knight Capital Group, Inc. and a number of not-for-profit entities. He formerly served as the chief operating officer of General Atlantic Service Company, LLC from January 2000 to December 2011 and as a managing director of General Atlantic LLC and its affiliates and predecessors from January 2000 through December 2011. Prior to joining General Atlantic in 2000, Mr. Nimetz was a partner (and former chair) of the law firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison in New York City, where he concentrated on corporate and international law from December 1980 through January 2000. He previously practiced law as a partner at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett between 1969 and 1977. Mr. Nimetz served as Under Secretary of State for Security Assistance, Science and Technology from February through December 1980 and as Counselor of the Department of State from 1977 to 1980. His previous federal government positions include service as a Staff Assistant to President Lyndon Johnson from July 1967 to January 1969; a law clerk to Justice John M. Harlan of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1965 to 1967; and other positions with the U.S. and New York governments and with the United Nations. Mr. Nimetz received degrees from Williams College and Harvard Law School where he was president of the Harvard Law Review. He also received a master’s degree from Balliol College, Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar.
