SYDNEY, Nov 17 Shanghai nickel prices fell on Friday on worries about growth in Chinese steel markets, with the sector heading into a low consumption period over winter.
SHANGHAI Tangshan, China's top steelmaking city, plans to temporarily halve its iron production capacity from mid-November until mid-March as local authorities step up efforts to fight winter smog, a notice from the municipal government showed on Tuesday.

BEIJING China's steelmaking raw materials extended their losses on Tuesday, with coke on a nine-day losing streak, even as steel was boosted by bargain-hunters and closures of bearish positions ahead of the quarter-end and Chinese holiday.
MANILA Chinese iron ore futures dropped more than 1 percent on Wednesday as a slide in steel prices dragged down the raw material, although firm steel demand in the world's top consumer of the metal is expected to cap any losses.
