california election results

There are three toss-up U.S. House contests in one of the nation's biggest states where Democrats have a stronghold. Incumbents Governor Gavin Newsom, who survived a Republican-led recall in 2021, and U.S. Senator Alex Padilla, tapped by Newsom to finish Vice President Kamala Harris' Senate term, are heavily favored to win re-election. U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi, 81, is also seeking a 19th term in office. Democratic U.S. Representative Karen Bass also faces former Republican-turned-Democrat real estate developer Rick Caruso in the race for Los Angeles mayor. California voters will also weigh in on a proposal to enshrine the right to an abortion in the state's constitution.
