(Reuters) - New York-founded law firm Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton said on Friday it has hired Edward Aldred as a partner in its private equity practice in London.

Aldred spent his entire two-decade career at UK firm Linklaters, according to his LinkedIn profile, and was last co-head of its financial sponsor leveraged finance practice.

Cleary managing partner Michael Gerstenzang said Aldred will contribute to the firm’s public and private M&A finance practice.

A Linklaters spokesperson said the firm wishes Aldred well.

Aldred’s hire is at least the third London hire for Cleary in six months. The firm in January added UK firm Travers Smith’s private equity head Ian Shawyer as a partner.

In November Cleary added Nick Rumsby from Linklaters as a corporate finance partner in London.
