EVUM Motors is an electric utility vehicle manufacturer from Germany, founded in 2017. In 2013, the idea for EVUM Motors was born at the Technical University of Munich. Back then, the project team, consisting of students, aimed at tackling the democratisation of electric mobility, by creating a simple, robust, all-electric vehicle that can be manufactured locally and that therefore would be affordable even in the poorest countries in the world – the aCar.
Since then, Martin Šoltés and Sascha Koberstaedt, the founders and CEOs of EVUM Motors GmbH, drove forward the industrialization of the vehicle, and finally set up the production in Germany. The production of the “aCar” meanwhile is well underway since the end of 2020.
The simplified design, the all-wheel drive and a 48-volt power system facilitate the usage and maintenance of the aCar even under challenging conditions. Today, the compact vehicle is being used by social enterprises in several African countries, as it meets the needs and requirements of the rural population in sub-Saharan Africa. The modular concept of the car with different superstructures is also crucial within the agriculture and trade industry. With an all-wheel electric drive, the aCar combines economy and ecology whilst also being reliable and noiseless.
Martin and Sascha had the idea for the aCar while visiting Africa during their studies, researching solutions for the lack of mobility between rural communities and the “next big road”. With the aCar communities are able to tackle their daily transportation tasks.
EVUM has collaborated with WeTu. Founded by Siemens Foundation, the project works on innovative energy and drinking water supply solutions at the coast of Lake Victoria. The aCar, which was provided to WeTu, is now being used as an affordable and reliable means of transportation for transporting a variety of essential products such as ice or drinking water.
"We are shaping the future of the commercial vehicle industry, by providing climate-friendly, robust and intelligent e-mobility solutions with maximum customer benefit," say the founders' Martin Šoltés and Sascha Koberstaedt.
Robust commercial vehicles are especially important within the agriculture sector. The all-wheel drive gives the aCar grip on unsurfaced terrain.
EVUM Motors successfully focuses on the European market today, but it has not lost sight of its goal to provide emerging and developing countries with climate-friendly e-mobility. The long-term goal is to equip the African market with aCars. Affordable electric mobility solutions have the potential of improving the living conditions of many and potentially help create new jobs and new economic prospects.
With this concept, EVUM Motors is contributing to ensuring that wealth is being distributed more fairly around the world and that people in developing and emerging countries are integrated better into the economic cycle.
