Versuni is home to some of the world’s most renowned domestic appliance brands; a house of brands that is home to a unique portfolio of products and services with a mission to turn houses into homes.

Versuni are proud to build on 130 years of legacy. They are committed to making conscious choices in everything they do, so future generations have a place to call home for years to come.

Designing Products with Repairability and Refurbishment in Mind

For Versuni, innovation is about creating high-quality products that you can love for a long time and then recycle. To give products a longer life by designing them with recyclability, repair, and refurbishment in mind. Boguslawa Zdanuk, Global Refurbishment Lead, explains the story of refurbishment at Versuni; “What was initiated as a ‘start-up’ in a big company by giving returned products a second chance, we have developed into a full business line with an ongoing refurbishment process across all our categories and markets in Europe.” She continues, "since the start of our refurbishment program in 2018 we have almost sold 100.000 return deals to consumers, and we saved more than 100.000 KG of materials in 2022 with our efforts in refurbishment."

From Virgin Plastics to Sustainable Sourced Material

In the domestic appliances manufacturing industry, plastic has long been in demand for its durability, versatility, and lightweight. But it's no secret that it can pollute our natural environment when disposed of incorrectly. In order to mitigate their environmental impact Versuni has teamed up with suppliers and recyclers worldwide to ensure more recycled material in products and packaging. Kenny Shin, Development Engineer at Versuni, says, "the materials have the most impact on the product in terms of processing and extraction. Therefore, it is an area that we can make much more sustainable." By strictly selecting upstream suppliers, Versuni is now successfully producing the majority of its over 10,000 products with finite influences on the environment.

By 2025 Versuni aims to quadruple its use of recycled material. And to make products easier to recycle, chemicals such as PVC and BFR are being phased out. To reduce the dependency on virgin plastics, Versuni are also exploring new promising plastic options linked to the natural world, like bio-based plastic. Bio-based plastic is quality plastic sourced from plants or other biological materials. If you want to learn more, have a look at Philips ECO Conscious Edition.

Reduction of the Energy Consumption of Producing and Usage

Since 2020, Versuni have been carbon neutral in its operations, from its own factories to offices, logistics, and travel. The milestone was achieved by switching to wind and solar power as much as possible and offsetting the remaining carbon. However, as a manufacturing company Versuni have to look beyond their own operations to battle against climate change. Energy consumption for products usages in homes contributes to up to 80% of Versuni’s overall environmental impact. Consequently, the engineering and design team have been working with EcoDesign principles for more than 30 years to increase the energy efficiency of the products they make.

Naresh Kumar, Senior Advanced Development Engineer at Versuni, says, "in a typical domestic appliance company, most of the manufacturing processes involved in the delivery of the products are very energy intensive, as well as the usage of the products at home by consumers. As a company, we are motivated by this challenge to find an innovative solution to reduce carbon dioxide emissions."
