Hairspray – an indispensable utensil for anyone who wants to turn an inherently short-lived hairstyle into a lasting piece of work – was not invented in Paris, London, Milan or Chicago, or any other substantial metropolis. Rather, it originated in the small town of Siegelsbach in southwest Germany. It was here that Hans Schröder founded Mann & Schröder KG, Chemische Fabrik, together with the electrician Eugen Mann in 1951.
At that time, the two produced everything that was urgently needed for the bathroom and the cleanliness of one's own four walls in post-war Germany.
A few years later, with the hairspray "Pony" (German for ‘fringe’ or ‘bangs’) a resounding success (due to the upcoming fringe fashion in the 1960s), the foundations were laid for the production of cosmetics and body care products. Today, decades later, MANN & SCHRÖDER COSMETICS is an experienced specialist in a wide range of body and hair care products.
Instead, they designed and produced their own brands: the oldest of these is alkmene, under which organic care products made from tea tree oil, nettle and aloe vera have been marketed for more than 50 years. Sanosan is the most successful export brand of the Siegelsbach company and is dedicated to the skin care of babies, children and mothers. For the medical skincare brand numis® med, the company works closely with dermatologists and other natural scientists to continuously improve the products using state-of-the-art laboratory technology, among other things. Apart from these self-owned brands, MANN & SCHRÖDER COSMETICS also offers private label products: this means that entrepreneurs can approach MANN & SCHRÖDER COSMETICS with a product idea and develop the formula, design and packaging together with them. In the meantime, MANN & SCHRÖDER COSMETICS has been able to win customers from all over the world in this segment.
All in all, the Siegelsbacher company produces about 2000 different hair and body care products. What all these products have in common is that they are made in Germany – something the family-owned company is proud of.
They are also proud of their increasing commitment to sustainability: because the production of natural cosmetics and care products also requires the use of plastics in the form of packaging. To ensure that this is done as sustainably as possible, MANN & SCHRÖDER COSMETICS have taken various measures. One of them is to focus more on so-called solid cosmetics, i.e. soap or syndet bars, which ultimately only require cardboard packaging – besides, the quantity is more economical.
The remaining packaging is to be designed in such a way that as little packaging as possible is used. In addition, recyclate is used - in other words, plastic that has been obtained exclusively from a recycling process. These approaches are complemented by energy and water-saving production methods and CO2-conscious transport management.
These measures are not entirely altruistic: after all, customers should be able to use the care products with a clear conscience. It is more than reasonable – what is good for the body should not be at the expense of the planet.
