Libyan rebels in Misrata are paying extra attention to a deadly threat in their fight against Mummar Gaddafi... land mines. This man normally works as a car mechanic, but like other volunteers, has left his day job to help rebel forces. The mine clearance team works throughout the day to remove the plastic mines that are virtually invisible with metal detectors. Libya is not party to the international treaty that bans the use of land mines, but rights groups say its use of the weapons violates established norms, especially if they are laid in areas where they pose a threat to civilians. Gaddafi's government denies it has used land mines in civilian areas at any time during the five-month uprising. Julie Noce, Reuters
