More than 100 people injured in Rio train collision

A collision between two trains on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro leaves some 140 injured with witnesses reporting that thieves are exploiting the situation. Jillian Kitchener reports.

Some 140 people are injured in a collision between two trains on the outskirts of Rio de Janieiro, according to local media. Authorities say one of the trains was stopped at a station when the other one crashed into it from behind, jolting the passengers. (SOUNDBITE) (Portuguese) UNIDENTIFIED VICTIM SAYING: "I felt the impact and when I looked around everyone was on the floor, people on top of each other. It was a real mess. When we got out we saw a man under the train too, the man was badly injured." Injured passengers were rushed to four health care centers in the surrounding area. According to some witnesses, thieves were taking advantage of the chaotic scene: (SOUNDBITE) (Portuguese) UNIDENTIFIED VICTIM WHO CLAIMS TO HAVE BEEN ROBBED AFTER THE ACCIDENT SAYING: "A boy came along, grabbed my telephone out of my hand and ran off, then they threw me out of the station." The accident, which followed a day of wet and stormy weather, is under investigation.
