As the 2015 CES opened in Las Vegas, there was a lot of talk about the Internet of Things, and what that will mean for consumers. Bobbi Rebell reports.

CES- the massive consumer electronics show is in full swing- and all about getting connected. The most overheard buzzwords: the Internet of Things. CNET's Editor in Chief Lindsey Turrentine: SOUNDBITE: LINDSEY TURRENTINE, EDITOR IN CHIEF, CNET REVIEWS, (ENGLISH) SAYING: "When we say "The Internet of Things" we are often talking about the ways in which your thermostat interacts with your car. We are starting to see a lot of that at this show, a lot of connected home, a lot of connected the home with the car, with the garage, with the sprinkler. That's "The Internet of Things" for the consumer." Kitchens of the future connecting the entire family. Whirlpool's John Hall: SOUNDBITE: JOHN HALL, OF WHIRLPOOL APPLIANCES, (ENGLISH) SAYING: "We want technology to get out of the way of, this kitchen helps guide people through this process. For Whirlpool, it's important that we cast a vision into the future of what the home appliance industry is going to look like and this is an example of that." Visitors were made to feel at home- complete with smart massage chairs that use sensor devices- and robots ready to serve. Robin Raskin, founder, Living in Digital Times: SOUNDBITE: ROBIN RASKIN, FOUNDER OF LIVING IN DIGITAL TIMES, (ENGLISH) SAYING: "All of a sudden you have all of this stuff, you have crock pots talking to your birdfeeder, you have thermostats that control your home temperature, you have sewing machines that you can say 'embroidery me this, please' and so you have toothbrushes that tell you when you have brushed enough and then send it to my dentist by the way." Televisions were also big- and thin- think 4K. Samsung among the companies hoping to grab attention for their latest models. Also big at CES- cars. Ten auto makers are showcasing their offerings this week.. including BMW with its i360 solar concept- also playing up that internet of things concept. SOUNDBITE: LINDSEY TURRENTINE, EDITOR IN CHIEF, CNET REVIEWS, (ENGLISH) SAYING: "They come here to show off the ways in which the their cars are working with your smart watch, with your phone, talk of things like automatic valet service, so you just tell your car to come get you and it drives to you." Mercedes unveiled its self driving luxury sedan- Daimler Chairman Dieter Zetsche says the aluminum and glass luxury car goes beyond just transportation- to a mobile living space. SOUNDBITE: DR. DIETER ZETSCHE, CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF MANAGEMENT OF DAIMLER AG, HEAD OF MERCEDES-BENZ CARS, ON SEEING THE CONCEPT COME TO LIFE, (ENGLISH) SAYING: "30-years ago I was seeing these pictures and dreaming about these cars. Now to be part of the realization is fantastic" Oh and drones. Lots of drones. Companies betting customers will spend a couple thousand dollars to have these gadgets in their backyard.
