The show business satire "Birdman" picked up another important award in its march toward the best picture Oscar by winning the top honor from Hollywood's actors on Sunday (January 25). "Birdman" won the best ensemble cast in a motion picture from the Screen Actors Guild. While the SAG award for the best ensemble cast does not always translate to a best picture win at the Academy Awards, it does indicate that actors, the largest voting bloc for the Oscars, have made it the front runner for the coveted honor. Emma Watson will soon be a Disney princess. The "Harry Potter" star has signed on to play 'Belle' in a live-action version of "Beauty and the Beast." Watson announced the news on her Facebook page. The 1991 animated version became an instant Disney classic and has grossed more than 424 million dollars worldwide. Ava DuVernay, the director behind the Oscar-nominated Martin Luther King Jr. biopic "Selma," will write, produce and direct a feature film set in the time of Hurricane Katrina. David Oyelowo, who plays King in "Selma," is in talks to co-produce and star in the film. Melissa River, the daughter of the late comedienne Joan Rivers has filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against the New York outpatient clinic that treated the entertainer a week before her death last year. The lawsuit is seeking unspecified compensatory and punitive damages. Broadway's "Great White Way' will go dark as the result of a potentially historic blizzard that that promises to shut down much of the Northeast. With up to 3 feet of snow expected to fall, all Broadway performances in New York City have been canceled for Monday (January 26). Officials say the bad weather could also impact shows scheduled in the days ahead.
