Former Guantanamo Bay detainee David Hicks, says it's pay-back time. With his conviction on terrorism charges overturned by a U.S. military appeals court, he wants the Australian government to pay for medical expenses acrued after what he says were five years of torture -- both mental and physical. (SOUNDBITE)(English) FORMER GUANTANAMO INMATE DAVID HICKS SAYING: "I am in a lot of trouble physically at the moment. It is affecting my ability to do any day job which is my only income. I am in need of an operation on my left knee, my right elbow and my back and my teeth keep getting pulled because I couldn't brush them for five and a half years. It is becoming an expensive exercise to fix myself from the years of torture." Hicks pleaded guilty in 2007 to providing material support to terrorism. But his conviction was thrown out because that did not become a crime until years after he was captured in Afghanistan, where he knowledged he had trained at an al Qaeda camp. His lawyers say he made the guilty plea under duress after enduring years of beatings, sexual assaults and sleep deprivation.
