Some 1,200 families have been displaced by severe flooding in Brazil's western Acre state. At least four towns were almost completely underwater on Tuesday (February 24) after the Acre River swelled beyond its banks submerging homes, business and farmland. Hundreds of police and other emergency crew have been deployed in the area to help an estimated 4,000 people affected by the rising flood waters. The river has reached record depths in some areas, especially along the Bolivian border. State capital Rio Branco has also been hard hit.
