ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) One person was shot and killed and five others were injured in a shooting on Wednesday that unfolded across multiple locations in Mesa, Arizona, the Arizona Republic newspaper reported on its website. Mesa Vice Mayor Dennis Kavanaugh confirmed in a phone interview that multiple people in the city have been shot and that the shooter has not been caught. "The perpetrator is still at large," Kavanaugh said. The Arizona Republic, citing an unnamed police source, said that one person was killed in the shooting and five others were wounded. Local authorities did not immediately confirm that report. The shooting was first reported across the street from the East Valley Institute of Technology in the city, which is less than 15 miles east of Phoenix, Mesa police spokesman Esteban Flores told reporters. Reports soon followed of shootings at other locations, including at a restaurant, he said. The shooter is a man in his 40s with a large tattoo on his neck, Flores said. There were five or six shooting locations, local television station 12News, an NBC affiliate, reported. Paramedics treated four people at one location near a light rail station, the Arizona Republic reported. The East Valley Institute of Technology and Mesa Community College were placed on lockdown as a precaution due to the shooting, the campuses said on their Twitter pages.
