In Naples, Pope rails against mafia crime

Pope Francis visits one of Naples' most dangerous neighborhoods and urges residents not to let ''road of evil'' rob society of ''hope.'' Gavino Garay reports.

Pope Francis is visiting one of Naples' most dangerous neighborhoods during a one-day trip to southern Italy, where he's railing against mafia crime and corruption. In the notorious Scampia neighborhood, a stronghold of the Camorra mafia, he says those who choose the path of evil are stealing from society. (SOUNDBITE) (Italian) POPE FRANCIS SAYING: "We know that those who voluntarily take the road of evil robs a piece of hope. They gain something but they rob hope. They rob it from themselves and from everybody, from society, the road of evil is always a road that robs hope." But the Pontiff also says it's not too late to change. He's calling on those who chose a life of crime and corruption to clean their souls, clean up society, to rid the city of what he says is the "stink" of corruption. Pope Francis later held a Mass in Naples' historic center. He called called for fair wages and a more inclusive mindset toward immigrant workers.
