ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) Writer and director Leigh Whannell sat down in London ahead of the release of his latest film, 'Insidious: Chapter 3'. Whannell is a heavyweight in the horror movie world having co-created and written the 'Insidious' movie series as well as the hugely successful 'Saw' movie franchise. 'Insidious: Chapter 3' acts as a prequel to the first two 'Insidious' movie releases, set years before the haunting of the Lambert family and Elise's battles with spirits from The Further, in 'Insidious' and 'Insidious: Chapter 2'. In the prequel, aspiring actress Quinn Brenner, played by Stefanie Scott, has a feeling that her late mother is trying to contact her and seeks the help of a psychic, unleashing a demonic spirit. For Whannell, it was important to juxtapose the horror with a real life relatable family explaining that so many horror films have characters that you hope will die. He explained that he goes to extreme lengths to achieve the necessary scare factor in his scripts, 'method writing' in the middle of the night in an attempt to scare himself. 'Insidious: Chapter 3' is released in UK cinemas on June 5.
