Russians stuff their faces in pie

In the city of Rostov-on-Don fourteen Russian men and one woman compete for the fastest pie-eating title. Rudi Bakhtiar reports.

It's not your ordinary pie-eating contest. This one is in Russia, in the southern city of Rostov-on-Don, And the pie…is chicken liver potato pie. Fourteen Russian men and one woman raced to scarf down the traditional delicacy...although hardly delicately. (Man raises hands to signal a win - Announcer heard saying: in Russian: There is a champion, friends let's applaud) (Spectators cheering) But in the end, it was a man known only as Georg who won the battle. (RUSSIAN SOUNDBITE - CONTEST WINNER) "I always eat fast. This is my lifestyle so to say." The contest, which is meant to entice visitors to taste pies and local bread, is the only one of its kind in the country, according to organizer Larissa alyoshina. (RUSSIAN SOUNDBITE - CONTEST ORGANIZER LARISA ALYOSHINA) "Why is it (contest) special? It is really ordinary, traditional, habitual for a Russian person. (That is) consumption of tasty and healthy food, that is made of natural products, things that come from the soul" The competition is over, but organizers are already preparing for next year. Word is Rostov may host an attempt to break a Guiness world record for pie eating.
