Selena Gomez has revealed to Billboard that she suffers from lupus and has even been treated with chemotherapy. The singer and actress told Billboard that the autoimmune disease is the reason why she canceled the end of her 2013 tour. She told the publication, "I was diagnosed with lupus, and I've been through chemotherapy. That's what my break was really about. I could've had a stroke." According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Lupus is "an autoimmune disease in which the immune system produces antibodies to cells within the body leading to widespread inflammation and tissue damage." The causes are unknown, but the disease can cause various periods of illness and remission. In the interview, Gomez said she was distraught about the rumors surrounding her break from the spotlight, which included that she was on drugs or devastated by her break-up with Justin Bieber. She will embark on a new tour in 2016, kicking off in Las Vegas in May and hitting 41 North American cities.
