The custom car-maker who designed the original Batmobile used in the 1960s "Batman" television series has died, his son announced Thursday. George Barris died in his Los Angeles home at the age of 89, 15 days shy of his 90th birthday, Brett Barris said. Barris built the Batmobile car in roughly two weeks, constructed from a 1955 sedan that he purchased for one dollar. The automobile has arguably become the most famous car ever created for Hollywood. It sold at auction in 2013 for 4 million dollars. Barris also created vehicles for the TV shows "Knight Rider," "The Munsters" and "The Beverly Hillbillies," among others.
