EDITORS PLEASE NOTE: QUALITY AS INCOMING EDITORS PLEASE NOTE: THIS EDIT CONTAINS MATERIAL THAT WAS ORIGINALLY 4:3 The blast ripped through the busy market of Eid Gah in Parachinar. Scores of shoppers were killed or wounded, some in the blast; others in the stampede that followed, according to local officials. No group has taken responsibility for the explosion, but Parachinar is in far northwest Pakistan near the border with Afghanistan. Many of its people are Shi'ite, unusual in Sunni-majority Pakistan. The Sunni militia, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, has been active in the area but most of its leadership were shot dead in police custody earlier this year. Many local residents also fear the growing influence of militias who have sworn allegiance to Islamic State. As officials investigate the cause of the blast, residents try to clean up and heal.
