U.S. President Barack Obama files by the casket of Justice Antonin Scalia as it lies in repose at the U.S. Supreme Court. Diane Hodges reports.

U.S. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle come to the Great Hall of the U.S. Supreme Court, to pay tribute to Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. Scalia's casket had been carried into the Hall just hours before, as a group of Scalia's former law clerks, the Court's eight remaining members, and some of Scalia's relatives looked on. Scalia was known as a staunch conservative who wrote colorful opinions when he was in the majority, and stinging dissents when he was not. Some of those who waited outside in near-freezing temperatures for the chance to file by his casket, said he will be greatly missed. (SOUNDBITE) (English) ROBERT CARTER, BURKE, VIRGINIA RESIDENT SAYING: "I had an occasion to meet him several times and he was both just a good person, a brilliant jurist." (SOUNDBITE) (English) STEPHANIE SUSKI, RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA RESIDENT, SAYING: "You know, his originalism has taken not just the Supreme Court but, you know, legal scholars and, of course, throughout the country in a new direction, in a more conservative direction than was before." Obama will not attend Scalia's funeral on Saturday, but Vice-President Joe Biden who, like the justice, is a devout Catholic, will.
