Officials in Paraguay say the leftist guerrilla group the EPP, or Paraguayan People's Army, was likely responsible for an ambush that left eight soldiers dead. It happened Saturday in an area where the EPP is known to operate. Friends and family of the soldiers who were killed were overcome with grief. Officials said the soldiers belonged to a special task force created in 2013 specifically to combat the EPP. According to the Interior Minister, the manner of the attack was typical of the EPP and included explosive artifacts by a road. The EPP was formed just over 10 years ago and is loosely modeled on the FARC in Colombia.
