Over 1,000 re-enact Napoleonic war

Costumed soldiers from all around Europe meet near Tvarozna village in Moravia, Czech Republic to reenact the ''Battle of Three Emperors.'' Elly Park reports.

A battle cry calls soldiers to arms. Over 1,000 costumed soldiers from 17 countries gather at Tvarozna in the Czech Republic to re-enact one of 19th Century's most famous wars. The Battle Of Three Emperors or the Battle of Austerlitz was fought here in 1805, when Napoleon's soldiers, greatly outnumbered, defeated the combined forces of the Russian and Holy Roman empires. Napoleonic era expert, Professor Oleg Sokolov. SOUNDBITE: Russian Historian Oleg Sokolov Acting Marshall Bertier saying (Russian) "The weather was practically the same as today. Only the morning was more foggy and it was colder - below zero. The fog was covering the ground till 8-8.30 but it was bright sunny weather like today." Napoleon's victory here is regarded by many historians as his most impressive. And 18,000 troops died from both sides in just the one day of fighting. Canadian actor Mark Schneider plays the role of the French emperor. SOUNDBITE: Mark Schneider Acting Napoleon saying (English) "For me I think it is important to tell the story, the history. I often say the great quote of the historian Santiana who says: 'Those who don't learn from history are condemned to repeat it'." Hopefully this battle is a reminder of the past for both the performers as well as spectators.
