At least 36 dead in Pakistin plane crash

A plane carrying about 40 passengers and crew crashed on the slope of a mountain in northern Pakistan on Wednesday, with witnesses at the site of the flaming wreckage saying there were unlikely to be any survivors. Nathan Frandino reports.

Officials say the plane crashed into the mountain around 4:42 p.m. local time. Locals in the Havelian area of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province swarmed the crash site, but with the wreckage engulfed in flames, there was little they could do. Reports differ on the number of people on board the plane, but the military says at least 36 bodies have been recovered. At the airport in Islamabad, the plane's final destination, relatives of those on board waited for news. (SOUNDBITE) (Urdu) RELATIVE OF PLANE CRASH VICTIM, SAYING: "His name is on the list but his death is not confirmed until Pakistan International Airlines or some other authorities say he is actually dead." Pakistan International Airlines says the dual turboprop aircraft lost contact at around 4:30 p.m. Now officials are searching the wreckage for the black box flight recorders, for some indication as to why the plane came down.
