ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) A massive fire engulfed about 140 buildings in Itoigawa city in Japan on Thursday (December 22), prompting local authorities to request help from Japan's Self Defense Forces to extinguish the blaze. The fire, which started at around 10:30 a.m. (0130 GMT), showed no sign of dying down as night fell on the residential area of the city, about 340 kilometres from Tokyo, according to a local fire department official. TV footage showed huge flames and smoke as firefighters battled the blaze. Evacuation orders were issued for 363 nearby houses, an official said. No deaths were reported. Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Kotaro Nogami said two people had minor injures.
