Trapped by war, people living in Mosul, bury the dead wherever they can. This used to be a place of learning, now this school yard is a place of mourning. There are eight mounds of dirt where residents have buried friends and relatives killed by Islamic State. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) RESIDENT ALAA MOSTAFA SAYING: "There are no cemeteries, we can't go to the cemeteries, so we had to bury people in this school. Not all the people are from this area, there are people from the Masaref or Sukkar districts, we brought them here and buried them. Their families couldn't take them so we buried them." An elderly resident lies here, they had a heart attack and couldn't reach the hospital because of fighting. Others were killed by sniper or mortar attacks. People living in recently liberated areas of Mosul still remain in danger of being targeted by retreating militants. And the front-lines are constantly shifting. At least three Islamic State suicide car bombs targeted Iraqi forces as they advanced in districts near the Tigris river, hoping to bring more of the east of the city back under government control.
