ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) The Northern Ireland peace process could not have happened without the late Martin McGuinness, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair said on Tuesday (March 21). The former IRA guerilla turned Sinn Fein peace negotiator died of a rare heart condition. "The quality of strength and determination that made him such a formidable foe during the armed struggle was also what made him a formidable peacemaker later," Tony Blair told BBC radio's The Today Programme . Blair, who was prime minister between 1997 and 2007 witnessed the signing of the Good Friday Agreement in 1998 which set up Northern Ireland's power-sharing government.
