He's no stranger to controversy but Alexei Navalny was probably not expecting to have green pain thrown at him on the campaign trail. The Russian opposition leader was opening his campaign headquarters in the Siberian town or Barnaul, when he was splashed with the liquid. A vocal critic of the Kremlin, Navalny is hoping to run for president of Russia next year, although it's not yet clear if he'll definitely be able to run. It's not known who threw the paint at him, but the substance was identified as an antiseptic sold in Russian pharmacies. Taking the splashing in his stride, Navalny released a video, complete with green face, emphasising his goal of un-seating current president Vladimir Putin. (SOUNDBITE) (Russian) RUSSIAN OPPOSITION LEADER, ALEXEI NAVALNY, SAYING: "Maybe they in the Kremlin believe that I won't make video addresses with a green face but I will definitely make them because even more people will watch them and it definitely won't stop me. I appeal to everyone: take part in rallies against corruption across the country on March 26. We will definitely win!" It's still up for debate whether the politician will legally be able to run for president. In February, he was found guilty of embezzlement and given a five year suspended sentence. Navalny has spoken out against the ruling, saying the Kremlin is trying to block his campaign to become president.
