ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) An Illinois judge was shot and killed outside his Chicago home on Monday morning, police said, after going outside to investigate the sound of gunshots. Raymond Myles, 66, was found shot multiple times by responding police. Police say moments before Myles was fatally shot, the gunman shot a woman leaving a nearby house. When Myles went outside to investigate the commotion, police say the judge exchanged words with the suspect before he was shot and killed. Myles was an associate judge in Cook County Circuit Court's Criminal Division, according to the court's website. Cook County includes Chicago, the third-largest city in the United States. The woman who was shot was being treated at a local hospital, an official familiar with the investigation said. Chicago's struggle to curb violent crime has drawn national attention as the number of people murdered last year rose to more than 760. President Donald Trump has repeatedly singled out the city for failing to quell the violence.
