Drug overdose deaths in U.S. peaked in 2015: DHS Secretary

Department of Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly says transnational criminal organizations smuggle in a vast amount of marijuana and hard drugs in the U.S. and in 2015, there were over 50,000 deaths caused by drug overdose. Rough Cut (no reporter narration).

ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) During a discussion at George Washington University, U.S. Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security John Kelly on Tuesday spoke about the threats to America including those by transnational criminal organizations. Kelly said such groups smuggle in vast amounts of marijuana and hard drugs, including cocaine, heroin and fentanyl, into the United States. Kelly said in 2015, which is the most recent data, there were more than 50,000 deaths in the U.S. caused by drug overdose, which is reportedly the highest number of drug-related deaths ever in the country.
