ROUGH CUT. NO REPORTER NARRATION. Speaking at a gathering of G20 health ministers in Berlin on Friday (May 19), German Chancellor Angela Merkel urged G20 members to increase funding for the new Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, or CEPI. Merkel, a physicist by profession, thanked Norway for its contribution and encouraged others at the meeting to join in. "Every contribution helps. As you can see, we are sticking to the saying 'there is no free lunch in this world.' You're constantly being asked to participate somewhere but it's for a good cause," she added. CEPI was launched in 2017 in the aftermath of the Ebola crisis which killed more than 11,300 people, aiming to ensure such deadly outbreaks can't happen again by preparing and creating new vaccines.
