President Donald Trump is withdrawing the United States from the landmark 2015 global agreement to fight climate change. Angela Moore reports.

President Donald Trump is pulling the United States out of the Paris climate agreement saying it "front loads costs on American people." (SOUNDBITE) U.S. PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP, ENGLISH, SAYING: "We're getting out. But will we try to see if we can make a deal that's fair. And if we can't, that's great." The United States was one of 195 nations that agreed to the accord in Paris in December 2015, with former U.S. President Barack Obama being instrumental in brokering the deal. Almost every country in the world signed it. The pact obliged them to cut emissions of greenhouse gases, which, scientists say, cause global warming, sea level rise, droughts, and more frequent violent storms. The United States is the second biggest greenhouse gases emitter, exceeded only by China. Oren Cass, senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute: (SOUNDBITE) OREN CASS, SENIOR FELLOW, MANHATTAN INSTITUTE (ENGLISH) SAYING: "The pact is a useless one in the first place. Climate change is an important problem, but pact that was passed was not a real solution. They all submitted voluntary pledges, most of which amount to nothing, and when you add the total effect is nothing. So, it's not an agreement that makes very much sense." Supporters of the Paris climate agreement condemned Trump's move. They say it shows that the United States is losing its leadership position in the world and can no longer be trusted to follow through on international commitments.
