The man who inspired the viral "Ice Bucket Challenge", Peter Frates, was hospitalized last week. His family says he's resting comfortably. Frates was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease, also known as ALS, in 2012. His family had been caring for him at home for the last three years, despite the often overwhelming cost. (SOUNDBITE) PETER'S FATHER, JOHN FRATES, SAYING: "And we're running any where between $85 and 90,000 dollars a month.... any family would be broke because of this." But they've had plenty of support. In 2014, to raise awareness of the disease, Frates family and friends kicked off what quickly became known as the Ice Bucket challenge. Seventeen million viral videos later... the campaign has raised more than $250 million dollars for ALS research. According to his family, Peter Frates is now battling ALS in a hospital -quote- "like a superhero."
