ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) A fire burning through Western Montana has slowed but is still dangerous, authorities said on Sunday (August 20). Local media reported that the Lolo Peak fire has scorched at least 31,700 acres. Officials partially lifted an evacuation order that has seen thousands moved from their homes. Two residences have been destroyed by the blaze. National Guard troops deployed on Saturday to man checkpoints in the area around the fire in order to provide backup to local law enforcement. Officials are hoping that slower winds and lower temperatures on Sunday will allow them to further contain the fire.
