ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) Tributes were paid on Sunday to two Florida police officers fatally shot in the line of duty. Kissimmee Officer Matthew Baxter, 27, was shot and killed and Sergeant Richard "Sam" Howard was fatally wounded in an altercation with three men on Friday. Howard, 36, died from his injuries on Saturday afternoon. A prayer service was held near the spot where Baxter and Howard were shot after approaching three men in a neighborhood police say has a history of drug activity. A suspect has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Kissimmee Mayor Jose Alvarez said the men were examples to the community. "They were examples of how our KPD truly is," he said. "They care what they do every single day." With the help of surveillance video, police arrested Everett Miller, 45, at a bar around 11:30 p.m. Miller, who was carrying 9 mm handgun and revolver when arrested, was charged with first-degree murder for the death of Baxter, police said, and is expected to also be charged with Howard's murder.
