The sun is shining on Paris once again. Visitor numbers dropped substantially in the wake of recent terror attacks. But international tourists have returned - Japan, China and America leading the way. (SOUNDBITE) (English) AMERICAN TOURIST FROM INDIANA, ALAN, SAYING: " I think if you stop travelling just because of that, that's what they want and we don't want to live in fear." France depends heavily on tourism. It generates 7 percent of the country's GDP and employs 2 million people. Hotel bookings confirm there's been a boost, but they're still short of the 80 percent occupancy rate enjoyed in 2014 before attacks scared people off. (SOUNDBITE) (French) PRESIDENT OF PARIS REGION TOURISM COMMITTEE, FREDERIC VALLETOUX, SAYING: "We are not going to hide our pleasure, tourism is doing better, tourists are coming back to Paris and the region, and in unprecedented and historical proportions because it has been 10 years since we have known such a beautiful first semester." This year the government's eyeing a record 89 million tourists, and wants a 100 million by 2020. To achieve that its started issuing visas faster, and increased security on the streets. It also has another ace up its sleeve. (SOUNDBITE) (French) PRESIDENT OF PARIS REGION TOURISM COMMITTEE, FREDERIC VALLETOUX, SAYING: "Above all, we have in mind that paris will welcome the Olympics game in 2024, it is only a matter of days now, and this will be a wonderful boost Paris and its region." Official confirmation due in September would mean one of the world's most visited cities can mark the centenary of the 1924 Paris Olympics with a repeat showing.
