A team from the Technical University of Munich, Germany, known as WARR Hyperloop, won a competition hosted by Elon Musk's SpaceX to design the fastest pod for a proposed transportation system known as the "Hyperloop." Originally conceived by Musk, it was envisioned as a high speed transport system that would shoot passengers in enclosed capsules through steel tubes at up to 800 mph (1,288 kph). The WARR team's pod traveled down the mile-long test track at 201 miles per hour (324 kilometers per hour). Team member Stephan Muller was proud of their achievement. (SOUNDBITE) (English) STEPHAN MULLER OF WARR HYPERLOOP SAYING: "It was perfect. It was really, really awesome. We never expected it. I mean, we wanted it to be this way but we didn't know if it would work last minute but it did. So we're really, really happy with the results." The competition was the second hosted by SpaceX at its track near its Hawthorne, California headquarters. A third round will be held some time in 2018.
