President Donald Trump is now officially welcoming new U.S. citizens. Immigration officials have rolled out a video in which Trump welcomes people into "the American family." It's taken eight months for Trump to release the message, which has become a standard practice at swearing-in ceremonies over the past two decades. Some had questioned whether the delay was a deliberate move, while Trump's administration moved to tighten controls on both legal and illegal immigration. But whatever the reason, new U.S. citizens seemed happy to hear his message. In Los Angeles, 4,500 people from 120 countries were among the first to receive it. (SOUNDBITE) Monica Babich, born in Peru, saying (English): "I'm obviously pleased that there is a message coming from him and that it's positive and embracing and saying, look you're all one now." (SOUNDBITE) Marcelo Freire, from Brazil, saying (English): "I thought the president would send a message to new citizens. It's nice to receive a welcoming message." (SOUNDBITE) Akila Mansour, from Algeria, saying (English): "He did his job as president. Whether he really meant it or no, I don't know."
