(ROUGH CUT - NO REPORTER NARRATION) The Japan Self-Defence Force (JSDF) and U.S. 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team held urban warfare and frontline rescue drills near the foot of Mount Fuji on Monday (September 18) as part of an annual two-week exercise. Around 1,200 soldiers took part in the training, named Orient Shield 17, amid rising tensions over North Korea's nuclear and missile programs. Both Japan and U.S. sides took turns surveying buildings and clearing rooms in an urban area setting, and carried out frontline rescue operations. Orient Shield 17 kicked off on September 8, and is scheduled to be held until the 25th.
