ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza lashed out at U.S. President Donald Trump in his United Nations General Assembly speech on Monday (September 25) and said that Venezuela's people "have been directly threatened by the president of the United States." "As if he were the world's emperor, President Donald Trump used this rostrum built for peace, to announce war," Arreaza said. "Paradoxically, in a gesture of political hypocrisy and brazenness, Donald Trump based his attacks on humanity on the values of peace and prosperity." Arreaza said that Trump's speech last week at the U.N. "called on the spirit of the Cold War," and Arreaza said his country was "prepared to defend our sovereignty, our independence and our democracy under any scenario and in any way." Arreaza emphasized that the U.S. was the greatest violator of human rights not only in its own country, but throughout the world.
