BENJAMIN PADDOCK: "You guys don't print anything. You don't tell anything but lies. You've never been on my side, so forget it." Meet Bruce Eriksen... aka Benjamin Paddock, the father of Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock. The older Paddock surfaced in Springfield, Oregon in the late 1970s under the Eriksen alias after escaping from prison, where he'd been serving a 20-year sentence for robbing a bank. PADDOCK: "We do not run it the way they want us to." He'd been on the lam for ten years before being nabbed, running a Bingo parlor, which he'd registered as a religious institution. ...although authorities said it was a gambling ring. PADDOCK:"We are simply a church and there's no way for them to escape it." Paddock was rearrested and sent back to prison and, after serving his time, returned to Oregon where he all but disappeared. (SOUNDBITE) (English) LT. SCOTT MCKEE\SPRINGFIELD POLICE, SAYING: "That tragic...ironic..connection to springfield you know and his criminal past and how his son you know gets engaged in you know a weapons related tragedy like this." Benjamin Paddock is presumed dead, although police say they have no death record... but his legacy has resurfaced with the still unexplained actions of his son in Las Vegas on Sunday night.
