Battling rough seas, beach rescue teams in Ivory Coast try to pull the wreckage of a cargo plane to shore. Officials say the aircraft, chartered by the French military, plunged into the sea near Abidjan airport on Saturday (October 14) killing four people and injuring six others. Emergency workers pulled the bodies from the wreckage and up the steep sand dunes as locals watched on. (SOUNDBITE) (French) BEACH RESCUE TEAM MEMBER, OUMARA SANOGO, SAYING: "When we arrived we found two floating bodies. So we threw ourselves in there and got the two bodies out. Now we're helping the French to get the plane out." Authorities say 10 people were on board the plane when it crashed. The four dead are Moldovan citizens, while four french nationals were among those injured. The French military says the plane was being chartered as part of an operation to combat Islamist militants in West Africa. It was en route from Burkina Faso's capital Ouagadougou. Officials say the plane lost contact with Abidjan's control tower during a heavy thunderstorm and crashed into the water shortly before landing. Investigators are now trying to piece together just what caused the plane to go down.
