ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: The trials and tribulations of young women trying to become nuns in the 1960s is the subject of the film "Novitiate." The story follows a young girl named Cathleen (Margaret Qualley) as she leaves her single mother (Julianne Nicholson) behind to join a convent and eventually become a novitiate. However, the Reverend Mother (Melissa Leo), who heads up the convent, is reeling behind closed doors as the Vatican begins bringing in reforms to the Catholic Church - one of which substantially changes the position and training of nuns. The production, headed by writer-director Margaret Betts, is almost entirely female produced. "Novitiate," which has received glowing reviews from critics, goes on limited release in the US on October 27.
