ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) U.S. Vice President Mike Pence headed to Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota on Friday, which is home to B-52 bombers and also oversees Intercontinental Ballistic Missile silos throughout the area. "Anyone who would threaten our nation should know, that America always seeks peace, but, if we are forced to defend ourselves, or our allies, we will do so with military power that is effective and overwhelming," Pence said. Earlier U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis peered into North Korea from a lookout post along the inter-Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). Last week, CIA chief Mike Pompeo said North Korea could be only months away from developing the ability to hit the United States with nuclear weapons, a scenario President Donald Trump has vowed to prevent.
