An emotional night for Chris Hurst... The former journalist who left his TV job after his girlfriend was killed live on television won a seat in the Virginia House of Delegates on Tuesday. After defeating District 12 incumbent Joseph Yost with 54 percent of the vote, Hurst delivered a message of unity. (SOUNDBITE) (English) CHRIS HURST, DISTRICT 12 DELGATE-ELECT, SAYING: "No matter if you are blue or red, whether you voted for me or not, we need to start bringing this New River Valley together and not continuing to look at it as different localities that aren't really unified as one." Hurst ran on a platform of reducing gun violence... an issue directly tied to the shooting of Alison Parker. She and cameraman Adam Ward were killed by a disgruntled former station employee. The shooter, Vestor Flanagan, later died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. And now two years later, Hurst is preparing to enact change through politics as the newest delegate in Richmond.
