The long-delayed Keystone XL pipeline championed by President Trump is now cleared for construction nearly a decade after it was first proposed. Regulators in Nebraska voted on Monday to approve the 1200 mile pipeline, which would bring crude oil from Alberta, Canada to refineries in the United States. The project has long been a lightning rod for controversy -- labor unions and the energy sector say it will lower fuel prices and create jobs. Environmentalists say it will hasten global warming and threaten communities in its path. The approval comes just days after a major oil spill in the completed portion of Keystone in South Dakota raised fresh alarms about the pipeline's impact. Trump's administration reversed former President Obama's earlier decision to block it. Monday's decision is likely to be challenged in court.
