BROADCAST AND DIGITAL RESTRICTIONS~** Broadcasters: NONE Digital: NONE~** Guitar buffs, take note: This guitar played by 60's icon Jimi Hendrix is one of several soon going up for bid that were used by music legends. And each has a rich story behind it. The auction takes place this Saturday at Guernsey's in New York. Guernsey's president Arlan Ettinger: SOUNDBITE: ARLAN ETTINGER, PRESIDENT, GUERNSEY'S, (ENGLISH) SAYING: "A pretty colorful guitar, a Guild guitar covered with decals of all descriptions used by none other than the great, late Jimi Hendrix in 1968 when a festival in Miami that he was appearing at got rained out. He and other musicians and as many fans could pack into the neighboring hotel jammed into there for what amounted to a jam session and this is the guitar he played." Among the others going up before the gavel: Paul McCartney's "Goldtop" Gibson guitar he used in recording sessions, the bass guitar Bruce Springsteen used on his very first album, and a black Les Paul that Madonna used to prove she could play the guitar in her "Drowned World Tour" 16 years ago. The star-studded auction comes on the heels of Guernsey's sale of Jerry Garcia's "Wolf" guitar in May. That sold for nearly $2 million. The auction won't be limited to musical gear and memorabilia. Also up for sale: master tape recordings by the godfather of soul, James Brown, and the king of rock, Elvis Presley.
